The Real Iron Man – Becoming A Man of Strength

You ever wonder why you keep messing up or wanting to do something that you know is wrong?  I mean, you really don’t want to do it, but you do it anyway against your better judgement.  Your mind and body are demanding you to do it, but something kicks you in the leg when you do it or even think about it.  Why aren’t you free to do what YOU want?  Why all the restrictions and restraints?  Because something inside of you is trying to turn you into an Iron Man.  This duty is not for everyone.  As a matter of fact, it is a high calling of honor.  It’s a privilege and it comes with prestige.  It makes you stand head and shoulders above the crowd and makes you distinguished among men.  Chickens and birds are of the same feather, so they fly together and you can’t tell one from the other.  Normally most of them don’t even know where they are going.  They just follow the leading bird. But eagles are set apart.  They soar alone.  They are rare and they rule the sky with grandeur.  They are on purpose and they refuse to come down to the level of a chicken, no matter how good the food looks on the ground.

The Iron Man is fortified.

He discovered who he is and is sure about his mission.  He can see clearly into his future and he knows where he is going.  He is so focused that nothing and nobody can district him.  People hate on him all the time because they don’t understand his KIND, but that is perfectly fine with him.  He has x-ray vision so he is able to see through the tricks of the enemy.  He demolishes trouble as soon as it appears.  Every morning he puts on his suit of armor and prepares for war.  He polishes his garments and receives his assignment for the day.  He is stone cold iron with a warm heart, so he is kind and gives of himself freely because he knows that he is not Iron Man just for himself.  He is here to do a job and the destinies of all around him lay in the balance.  He is a gift to his generation.

There is an account in the Bible about a seventeen year old boy name Joseph who was made of iron.  From his infancy, his father told him how great he was and he gave him a coat of many colors to represent his greatness.  He was trained in mathematics, government, language, agriculture, politics and religion.  All of this training was necessary for his future, but there are three attributes Joseph developed that are more valuable than all of these acumens combined.  He developed his spirit, character, and resistance.  A trinity that took him to the places of his dreams.  Literally….

Iron Man Character

Your character is the “you” that people don’t observe with their physical eyes.  Yes, you are extra hansom and smart.  You may be good on the court and you keep a clean ride.  You can hold a good conversation and you are interesting.  You have a few goals that you work on from time to time. Your smile is cool and genuine.  You are not typical.  You are powerful in your own domain and you are extremely talented.  But what do you know about your character.  Character is what sets one man apart from another.  It is the “you” that appears regardless of the presence of anyone else.  People are irrelevant when it comes to a man with character. It can be tested and built over time.

Time to take a test!!

  • What do you do when someone cuts you off on the road, gets really close to your Challenger and flips you the bird?
  • What would you do if you discover $50 on the ground at work right outside your bosses office and he just walked by?
  • What would you do if a porn image pops up on your Facebook page or flashes across the screen while you are shopping on E-bay?  To click or not to click?
  • What would you do when your best friend’s new girlfriend keeps pushing up on you and she finally gets you alone when he makes a run to the store?
  • What do you do when you’re looking out of the window and see your elderly neighbor who always yells at you for playing your music too loud, struggling to get his groceries out of the car?
  • Two pair! What do you do when you realize that the lady at the Footlocker checkout counter accidently gave you the other pair of shoes you couldn’t afford that you asked her to put back?

What was your first answer to each of these questions?  Your actions based on these questions will reveal to you your character which is also called your true colors.  Good character is not always the easy choice.  If it were, everybody would have it.  But it takes a Man of Iron to mold himself into shape.  Constantly going against your natural inclination to do something opposite of excellent character is what will do the trick!! After taking charge of your actions and forcing yourself to do what you really don’t want to do, your character will start to transform. You are disciplining yourself.  You will not use will power, but “God” power to do this.  Reading your Bible every day will absolutely transform you.  “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2 (KJV). No, you will not become a robot, but your eyes will be opened and you will start changing.  It will shock even you!! Ask God for help in the area of character and rest assure he will come to your rescue.  Warning!  God answers prayer, so don’t be alarmed when he starts talking and giving you direction.  You may want to do something or act a certain way and you will feel a subtle “slap” inside.  That’s him!  Iron Man training has begun and commander Christ has taken charge!

P.S. Having amazing character will pay you way more than talent ever could! Your gifts and talents stand upon the shoulders of your character.

Talent – character = mediocrity & failure

Talent + character = success, favor & power

Iron Resistance

Joseph was seventeen when he was sold by his brothers into slavery.  They were so jealous that they couldn’t stand him, so they got rid of him…So they thought!  Joseph’s way UP, was DOWN just like so many of you iron men.  He was sold to a rich guy named Potiphar in Egypt whom Joseph worked for as a slave.  After the favor of God and Joseph’s business skills were revealed, Potiphar’s wife started admiring Joseph.  See, the favor of God is attractive, and it will attract both good and evil eyes.  This is why you must build up resistance.  She saw his business acumen and his six pack abs and biceps and lunged at him.  Every day she tried to get him in bed but he refused.  This is what happened!

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. – Genesis 39:7-10 (NIV).

Then one day when Joseph was doing his business in the house, she caught him by the shirt and commanded that he come to bed with her.  She had a tight grip, so Joseph’s shirt tore off as he ran out of the house.  She was so angry about him rejecting her that she lied to Potiphar when he returned home and told him that Joseph tried to rape her.  She betrayed Joseph and Potiphar threw him in prison.

So jail is what Joseph got for resisting temptation?  But wait…it only put him one step closer to the ultimate prize.  When you resist things that you know are not Godly, you win…period!  When everybody around you is bowing out, you are standing strong and you may feel like you are losing, but you are gaining sweet victories that will soon be revealed!  Before a seed can germinate, it must die.  Before you can get to your place of greatness, you must resist the devil.  The Bible says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” James 4:7.

“But what about that girl who keeps trying to get at me and my boy who brought weed over the other night or the guy at work who keeps trying to show me how to clock in late and leave early without being caught”………..ALL TRAPS OF THE DEVIL!

You don’t have time to be trapped, so don’t even look in that direction.  Capture the image of Christ and your future and keep it in your mind at all times. Joseph literally ran because he didn’t want to put himself in the same space with the power of the devil.  He knew where he was going and he wasn’t going to let anyone trip him up.  1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “flee fornication.” This means to put on your Nike’s and run as fast as you can…with your legs! Change your #, kick your boy out, and don’t ever talk to that silly guy at work again!  It doesn’t feel good to resist, but no pain….no gain!  At the end of the day, you will celebrate your victory!  God will replace that girl with a woman who genuinely loves you, a friend that will help you achieve your dreams, and a colleague that will push you into promotion.  Just wait, Iron Man is about to emerge!

Iron Man Spirit

So Joseph had character, and resistance, but the chief operator of both of these elements was his spirit.  You are a three part being my friend…spirt, soul, and body.  You look at your body in the mirror every day, and your soul is your mind, will and emotions.  Then after you become a Christian, Christ enters your spirit and makes his home there.  That is where you are connected to him and are just like him.  This is where he anoints your gifts and makes you extra effective at being you.  Joseph had a gift of dream interpretation that scared everyone.  He was just a teen when the Bible speaks of his powerful relationship with God and his gifts.  He mastered his gifts early because he paid them attention.  When you mix up with God and start talking to him and reading the bible, he will actually talk back.  Joseph’s family thought he was crazy, so you don’t have to announce it to anyone.  It’s just between you and him.  You will start communicating with God from your spirit when you begin praying and meeting up with him in the realm of the Spirit.  Proverbs 20:27 says, “the spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts…”  That means, he knows what’s in there and uses your spirit to guide you and locate you.  The more time you spend with him, the more he sharpens your soul to beat at the same rate as your perfect spirit and you get better at the gifts he has placed inside of you.  He takes you up on his wings and makes you a high flyer.  It’s good to know that you have someone who will always be in your corner.  Even when you fall, he is there to pick you up.  If you fail, he will restore you and help you get better.  When a challenge comes, he helps you face it.  He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.  He is father, mother, brother, teacher, mentor and best friend all in one.  If you are missing some of these people in your life, then get ready for a spiritual invasion.  The Iron Man is here!

P.S. again. Joseph’s character, resistance, and spirit gave him the platform to become second in command in all of Egypt.  Eventually, the dreams he saw when he was seventeen all came true!
